Use fictional products and test the same sequence in every tool. Keep observed behavior separate from vendor claims.

THE SHORT VERSION

Use the same small task to compare tools, and document what you actually observed.

Make an entry from scratch

Create a fictional product with a serving size and two illustrative ingredients. Can you enter units clearly, edit a mistake, and preserve the original information? No real supplement or amount is recommended by this exercise.

Check capture

If scanning is available, try a readable sample label and compare every field with the image. Record missing or incorrect fields. One successful scan does not establish that every label will work.

Complete the daily loop

Add a log, correct it, and find yesterday’s entry. Check whether an occasional item can be recorded without a daily reminder. Note the steps and confusing labels.

Leave with your information

Find export and deletion instructions before adopting a tool. Inspect an export of fictional data. Record the format, included fields, current subscription requirements, and date checked.

A useful next step

Use the same small task to compare tools, and document what you actually observed.
